Mechanical System Noise Control
Mitigation of noise from a building’s mechanical systems is an important but often overlooked part of a successful design. Mechanical systems, including HVAC, elevators, plumbing, and some electrical components transmit sound throughout the built environment through ductwork, structure-borne vibration, and sound radiated through partitions. While critical in sensitive spaces such as concert halls and laboratories, noise from mechanical systems is also disruptive in classrooms, offices, residential buildings, and civic spaces.
By thoroughly analyzing systems during design, we can aid in selecting and specifying treatment options that are effective and cost sensitive. While much more challenging, we also can identify, measure, and help mitigate mechanical sound and vibration issues in existing spaces.
